Freeze and thaw – this is the definition of a Colorado winter. It requires flexibility. It’s a reminder that nothing ever stays frozen forever. In the last few years, learning that there was also a freeze option in regards to fight or flight response felt like an ‘ah ha’ moment for me.
So many years my freeze response saved me. I can honor that response as it protected me. This past year especially, I have also learned to embrace the messy thaw. Just like the thaw after a snowy freeze outside, the ground is muddy and slushy. messy.
I imagine God as my protector through the freezing and my father through the thaw. He shows up with a shield and armor while I freeze and with warmth and an embrace as I thaw.
